Fleurent named semifinalist for Concannon Award
- Updated: February 11, 2016
University of New England men’s ice hockey player Trevor Fleurent has been named a semifinalist for the 16th annual Joe Concannon Award, as announced this morning (Feb. 11) by Gridiron Club of Greater Boston president Jim Kearney.
The Concannon Award is presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England at the NCAA Division II/III level.
A junior from Biddeford, Fleurent leads the Nor’easters with 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) through 23 games. He is also tops on the squad with three game-winning goals. Fleurent’s career totals of 29 career and 68 points place him second all-time in each category at UNE.
“I am very honored to be named a semifinalist for the 16th annual Joe Concannon Award,” stated Fleurent. “It is humbling to be recognized with such a talented group of players throughout New England. I am pleased to represent the University of New England and the success of our up-and- coming hockey program”
UNE (12-9-2, 8-7-1 NEHC) is currently fourth in the New England Hockey Conference standings with a pair of regular-season games remaining. Under the direction of first-year head coach Kevin Swallow, the Nor’easters are chasing their first-ever postseason home game. The NEHC playoffs start Saturday, Feb. 20.
The Gridiron Club expects to announce the finalists and winner of the 16th Joe Concannon Award in March, prior to the start of NCAA Division III Frozen Four Tournament play, and to present the award during the New England Hockey Writers Dinner in April.
