Colby settles for tie against Wesleyan

The Colby College men’s hockey team nearly left Wesleyan University with a victory, but the Cardinals scored with just 46 seconds left in regulation in a 2-2 overtime tie in NESCAC play Saturday.

The Mules are 5-6-4 overall and sit in sixth place in the NESCAC with a 3-5-2 record. The top eight teams make the league playoffs. Wesleyan went all out for its first victory only to earn its seventh tie of the season to go with seven losses.

Tyler Lingel scored his first goal of the season at 10:55 of the third period to put the Mules up 2-1. Jack Burton and Scott Fenwick had assists on the play.

The Cardinals pulled their goalie and went with the extra attacker to try and tie the game. Andy Espinoza scored his second of the season from Alex Carlacci to send the game to overtime.

Colby had a 1-0 lead after one period thanks to a goal by EJ Rauseo at 17:09 from Michael Rudolf and Dan Dupont.

Wesleyan had the lone goal of the second period at 2:58.

Emerson Verrier stopped 23 shots for Colby.
