Bowdoin and Wesleyan end in 3-3 tie

The Wesleyan University men’s ice hockey team battled to a 3-3 tie against NESCAC foe Bowdoin College Friday night at Spurrier-Snyder Rink.

Wesleyan is now 0-7-6 on the season and 0-2-5 in NESCAC play. The Polar Bears are now 4-6-3 and 2-4-2.

The Cardinals got off to a fast 1-0 advantage as senior Eric Casey’s shot was tipped in by junior James Kline just 1:07 into the first period. The Polar Bears would answer later in the period on a goal by freshman Bradley Potter, 16:23 into the first. His goal was assisted by junior John Alexander-Kourkoulis and junior Mitch Barrington.

Bowdoin was able to grab the led in the second period on a goal by freshman Chris Wallace with 3:10 gone by in the period. His goal was assisted by Barrington and sophomore Daniel McMullan. Just two minutes later, Bowdoin was able to get another past Cardinals’ net minder, junior Dawson Sprigings. The goal was by freshman Cody Todesco and was assisted by McMullan and senior Matt Rubinoff. The Polar Bears would take a 3-1 advantage into the second intermission.

The Cardinals would make their comeback in the third period with two quick goals to begin the period. The first goal was scored by freshman Andy Espinoza after 2:02 of play, and was assisted by Kline and freshman Dominic Oliver. Just over two minutes later, Oliver scored off a Kline pass to even the game at three.

Neither team would score in the overtime, though Wesleyan had a few opportunities to get one past Polar Bear’s goaltender, sophomore Peter Cronin. Bowdoin missed an opportunity as sophomore Spencer Antunez was awarded a penalty shot, but his attempt was stopped by Sprigings.

Wesleyan is back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. against Colby.
