AUBURN – The Cony/Monmouth Rams got on the board early and often en route to a 13-0 victory against the Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill/Poland 26ers at the Norway Savings Bank Arena Wednesday night.

Cony/Monmouth scored four out of their 13 goals on the power play.

“We haven’t been doing well-scoring goals lately, so this was a good game to get ourselves back on track a little bit,” said Cony/Monmouth’s head coach Chad Foye.

Reed Hopkins scored his first of two goals on a rebound in the slot. Hopkins found a spot to put the puck just over the glove of the 26ers’ goaltender. Drew Keithley assisted the goal that came with 12:19 remaining in the first.

“I thought he played really well,” said Foye. “He’s a nifty little guy, and I think he played really well with the puck. It was good to see him lead a forecheck, and I’m really happy seeing his decisions coming out of our zone. I’m real happy with his progress.”

After the first goal, the Rams would capitalize on two power play opportunities to go up 3-0.

Tyler Dostie skated the puck to the high slot, and wristed a shot past the glove of Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill/Poland goalie Ken Humphrey. The goal came with 7:45 to go in the period.

Just over two minutes later and nine seconds into a 26ers’ tripping penalty, Drew Keithley took a low-angle shot along the goal line that got through the leg pads of Humphrey.

Nate Foye added another on a slap shot from the right point that deflected off of Humphrey’s shoulder and into the net. The goal put the Rams up 4-0 going into the second period.

The Rams piled more goals in the net in a second period where Humphrey was tested with 20 shots.

With Brandon Michaud in the box on a penalty a minute into the second period, Cony/Monmouth’s Thomas Arps fired a shot on net from the right faceoff dot that found it’s way through to the net.

The 26ers found themselves in more penalty trouble later in the second, and the Rams would capitalize yet again.

Foye slid a pass through the slot and found Theo Mahaleris for a shot into the gaping net. The fourth power play goal came 3:24 into the period.

With a 6-0 lead early in the second period, the Rams still weren’t done scoring.

Cole Lockhart, Reed Hopkins, and Anthony Brunelle each scored a goal through the remainder of the second period.

The second goal of the game for Hopkins came when he took the puck off of the faceoff, weaved into the slot, and roofed a wrist shot over the goalie’s glove. He would end the night with two goals and two assists.

The third period was much of the same for both teams. Riley Dowe, Anthony Brunelle, Brett Sproul, and Cam Wilson all added goals in the period.

Ken Humphrey had a tough night in net for the 26ers but fought hard through difficult shot after difficult shot. He faced 45 shots and allowed 13 goals.

Tom Small started the game in goal for the Rams and made three saves on two periods. Dalton Bowie saw time in net for Cony/Monmouth in the third period when he recorded two saves of his own. The Rams ended the game with a five-save shutout.
