FALMOUTH – Courtney Sullivan and the Greely Rangers topped the Brunswick Dragons 8-1 Tuesday night at the Falmouth Family Ice Arena.

Greely has outscored their opponents 17-2 in their first two games of the season.

Danita Storey scored the final tally for the Rangers with 1:21 remaining in the game on a rebounded shot from the slot, and that capped off a strong offensive performance by her team.

Consistent offensive pressure by the Rangers paid off when Erin Molloy netted the first goal of the game on a pass across the crease by Sullivan.

Sullivan scored a goal of her own just eight seconds later when she brought the puck past the blue line off of the faceoff and slid the puck past Brunswick’s senior goalie Jordan Van Savage.

“We’re trying to get our first girl hard on the puck, and I think that we did a great job with that,” said Greely head coach Nate Guerin. “We kept pressure and didn’t let them get a routine going to clear the puck. We had a hard forecheck.”

The Rangers outshot the Dragons 22-9 in the first period, and the second period saw much of the same with Brunswick managing only a few shots on the Greely net.

“I’m very proud of the girls’ effort tonight,” said Brunswick head coach Dave Boucher. “We played hard against a very good Greely team. We had two lines that could skate with them, but we didn’t match up well against their strong forwards, and that seemed to be the difference tonight.”

Greely added four more tallies in the second period to take a 6-0 lead in the game. Sullivan put another in the back of the net on a shorthanded chance when she poked the puck past the outstretched leg pad of the Dragon goalie.

“One of our main goals that we talked about before the game was to attack and not give them any time or space,” said Courtney Sullivan, who had three goals and two assists on the night.

Jordan Van Savage, the goaltender for Brunswick, faced a total of 52 shots in the contest. Van Savage’s best save of the game came on a breakaway opportunity by Greely’s Kylie Rogers. Rogers skated hard towards Van Savage and rifled a forehand shot in close. Van Savage remained square to the shooter and was able to steer the shot aside.

“Jordan played very well tonight,” said Boucher of his goalie. “She has a full year of experience behind her, and she’s playing with confidence. She’s going to win a few games for us this year.”

Beth Labbe scored the lone goal for Brunswick on the power play to get her team on the board. Jenna Brooks passed the puck up to a streaking Labbe, who came in alone and put the puck between the leg pads of Greely goalie Nica Todd.

Todd made 14 saves on 15 shots during the game. She was tested late in the first period but saw sporadic action throughout the remainder of the contest.
