Junior Black Bears win Black Cat Classic
- Updated: November 3, 2015
The Championship game featured the Jr. Black Bears against the hometown Manchester Jr. Monarchs whom they’d beaten the previous night, 4-1. Things looked good early on as the Jr. Black Bears jumped out to an early 2 goal lead with Captain Grady Vanidestine and Championship MVP Aiden Dunn leading the way. The lead would extend to 4-1 at the midpoint of the 2nd period when the Jr. Monarchs mounted a furious comeback, finding themselves going into the third only one goal down.
Netminder, Liam Doughty, and the D-corps put a stop to any further scoring on the Monarchs part and highlight real goals from Dunn with a tip in off a pass from Vanidestine and a short-handed bobbing, weaving and finishing foray by Olin Rummler gave the Jr. Black Bears some breathing room. The final would be 7-3
Over the fours game of the tourney, Coach Alex Porter’s team tallied 27 goals against 7 conceded. Goalies Doughty (2 wins, 1.5 GAA) and Zane Baker ( 2 wins, 2.0 GAA) stuffed the heroic dreams of many a young Capitol, Gunner, and Monarch while the combined efforts of the whole team: Emery Audibert, Ian Bouchard, Dylan Davis, Jackson Guimond, Roman Johnson, Tucker Leland, Alex MCcannel, Colin Mckay, Cade McKenney, Mike Mclean, Caleb Robbins, and Carter Walls allowed only the briefest of hopes for their opposition.
In short, the Tier II Squirt Jr. Black Bears went to New Hampshire, romped around for a bit, made time for some trick-or-treating and came home with an impressive piece of hardware.
