Bolduc to Arizona and other moves

The Pirates will look to get back into the win column against the Manchester Monarchs, but they’ll have to do it without their leading scorer after Alexandre Bolduc was recalled by the NHL Coyotes Friday morning.

Its first recall of the season for Bolduc, who has nine goals, 11 assists for 20 points in 24 games with Portland this season.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound native of Montreal, Quebec has recorded two goals, three assists for five points and 42 penalty minutes in 62 career NHL games with Vancouver and Arizona.

Portland had its six-game win streak snapped last Sunday against the PBruins. The Pirates are 7-3-0-0 in their last ten games to move within striking distance the Monarchs, Portland’s upcoming opponent at the Cross Insurance Arena.

The Coyotes, unlike the Pirates, is having a dismal season to date with a 10-16-3 record. The team’s 23 points is ranked 28th in the 30-team National Hockey League. Arizona is sporting a four-game losing streak and has lost eight straight games on home ice.

The Coyotes attempted to jumpstart its roster by recalling Tobias Rieder, Brandon Gormley, Jordan Martinook, Andrew Campbell, Lucas Lessio, Brandon Shinnimin and now Bolduc

All have played for the Coyotes, but none has made a sizable impact.

Rieder has made the biggest impact on the roster, likely securing his future in NHL, posting seven points and a plus-4 rating in 19 NHL games with the Coyotes.

Gormley appeared in six games but is currently recovering from an ankle injury. He’s currently skating and is listed day-to-day.

To make room on the Coyotes roster Martinook was assigned to Portland.

Martinook appeared in two games in Arizona, going scoreless. In Portland, Martinook has 13 points (4g, 9a) in 21 games.

The Pirates announced that goaltender Mike Lee has been assigned to Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.

Lee, a 6-foot-1, 190 pound goalie from Roseau, Minnesota, hasn’t played a game since December 6, 2013, when he stopped 14 of 18 shots in 36:50 of action against the Worcester Sharks at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The 24-year-old third-year pro then had season-ending surgery. Lee was sidelined earlier in the 2013-14 season by a second chronic injury. He only appeared in five games for Portland last season.

Lee has played in a total of 21 games with Portland in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, with a 9-8-1 record, a 2.95 goals against average, and a 0.907 save percentage.

Lee will be eligible to play for the Gladiators when they host the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night.
