Maine falls to Brown

The University of Maine Women’s ice hockey team opened its two game road trip with a 4-2 loss against Brown University at Meehan Auditorium Friday afternoon. Maine falls to 4-6-2 on the season, while Brown improves to 2-4-0.

Brown did not take much time to beginning scoring. Kaitlyn Keon scored the first goal at 00:17 in the first period. Sarah Robson assisted on the early goal.

Lauren Vella added a second goal on the power play for the Bears at 10:39 in the first period. Sarah Robson helped with her second assist of the game. Also, Kelly Micholson was credited with an assist.

Abbey Cook scored at 17:06 to pull the Black Bears within one. Brittney Huneke (Hastings, Minnesota) and Audra Richards had assists on the Cook goal.

The Black Bears started the scoring in the second period with a short-handed goal from Emilie Brigham at 4:04. On the play, Jessica Hall was credited with her first assist on the season.

Erin Conway gave Brown the 3-2 lead with a goal at 14:45 of the second period. Sarah Robson had her third assist of the day on the scoring play.

The Bears took a 4-2 lead at 3:39 in the third period with a goal from Kaitlyn Keon. Erin Conway and Hunter Davis each assisted Keon.

Kelly Micholson added an unassisted, empty net goal at 19:40 for Brown putting them up 5-2.

Meghann Treacy saved 22 of 26 shots on goal for the Black Bears, while Monica Elvin saved 30 of 32 shots on goal for the Bears. Maine was 0-4 on the power play, and Brown had one goal in two opportunities.

The Black Bears return to action Saturday November 8th at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
