Yotes split series with Kings; prepare to reduce roster

The Coyotes spilt pair of games against the Kings on Wednesday, winning in Los Angeles, 2-1, while falling 3-2 at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale.

Phoenix held a 2-1 lead into the third period before the Kings scored a pair goals including the game-winning goal from former Pirates Dustin Penner with 49 seconds left in the game.

Keith Yandle and Shane Doan scored for the Coyotes.

In the second game of the split squad series, the game would go to a shootout where Andy Miele and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored to give the victory.

Ethan Werek scored the only goal for Phoenix in regulation.

The Coyotes are expected to reduce their roster on Thursday in preparation for the Pirates opening training camp on Monday at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The Pirates ECHL affiliate, the Gwinnett Gladiators announce yesterday they’ve signed an affiliation agreement with the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sabres were affiliated with the Pirates for three seasons before moving their minor league operations back to Rochester, NY where they spent 29 years.

Both the Sabres and Portland’s new NHL affiliate, the Phoenix Coyotes will supply players to the Gladiators.

The American Hockey League announced on Wednesday a new five-year deal with Rogers Sportsnet to broadcast the AHL’s All-Star Classic.

The deal which is considered “multi-platform” will consist of rights to Sportsnet television as well as their mobile and online platforms, and will begin with this year’s game in Atlantic City, NJ.

Sportsnet will also broadcast – in high definition – the first outdoor AHL game ever held in Canada as the Hamilton Bulldogs host the Toronto Marlies at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, Ont., on Jan. 21, 2012.
