White and Holtz named player’s of the week

Courtney White and Kayte Holtz both were named player of the week for their respective league and Maine’s D-III women’s programs continue to grow and prosper.

White, a freshman forward for the University of Southern Maine, was named the ECAC Women’s East Rookie of the Week for the week of January 24-30.

White joins classmates Erin Banfield and Jordan Lee as recipients of the ECAC weekly award this season.

The first-year forward scored three goals last weekend in a pair of non-conference games at Connecticut College. On the season, she has four goals, three assists for seven points.

Bowdoin sophomore Kayte Holtz was named NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week on Monday.

Holtz single-handedly dismantled the Sacred Heart University with an eight-point weekend to lead the Polar Bears in a pair of victories last weekend.

Of the 14 goals scored by Bowdoin, Holtz was responsible for half during the weekend sweep.

On Saturday in a 6-2 victory, Holtz had her second four-goal game this season. She followed on Sunday with three goals, including the eventual game-winner, and an assist in an 8-2 win. The performance moved her to 21 goals so far this season over 18 games, the best goals per game in Division III.

Holtz’s 21 goals are the most by a Bowdoin player since Meghan Gillis and Kristen Cameron each scored 21 in the 2004-05 campaign.
