- Updated: January 22, 2011
The Lewiston Maineiacs could not hold a pair of two-goal leads and allowed four unanswered goals in the third period after leading 3-2 to fall to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Saturday night at the Centre régional K.C. Irving.
David Gilbert and Yoan Pinette scored a pair of goals each for Acadie-Bathurst. Pinette scored to tie the game in the third while Gilbert added the final two goals of the contest including an empty netter with 56 seconds left to seal the game for the Titan.
Lewiston jumped out to an early advantage with a goal from Cameron Critchlow 4:48 into the first period for the only score for either side in the opening period.
Etienne Brodeur would extend the Maineiacs advantage to 2-0 with a shorthanded effort just under two minutes into the second for his 39th goal of the year.
Later in the second, Pinette would put home his first goal of the night to bring Acadie-Bathurst within one.
At 17:01 in the second period Critchlow would be sent to the box for hooking. The penalty would yield a pair of goals as Lewiston came up with a shorthanded goal from Samuel Carrier 34 seconds before Gabriel Levesque responded with a power play goal to make it 3-2 in favor of the Maineiacs heading into the third.
In the third the wheels came off for Lewiston as Pinette scored his second to tie the game 2:48 in. A goal from Sebastien Trudeau at 4:15 would give the Titan their first lead of the game, and would prove to be the game winner as Gilbert added a pair of insurance goals to make it a 6-3 final.
Olivier Roy picked up the win for Acadie-Bathurst as he made 31 saves on 34 shots. For Lewiston, Nicholas Champion suffered the tough loss as he made 22 saves on 27 shots.
The Lewiston power play struggled in this one going 0-for-5 with the man advantage. Although the Maineiacs penalty kill yielded a pair of shorthanded goals, they allowed the Titan to go 2-for-5 on the power play.
