Bissonnette shoots out the light on Victoriaville

Olivier Dame-Malka sent the game into overtime and Matthew Bissonnette scored the game-winner in a shootout as the Lewiston Maineiacs beat the Victoriaville Tigres 4-3 before 2,266 at the Colisee Desjardins.

Lewiston forced overtime with just 1:04 remaining in regulation on Dame-Malka’s 13th goal of the year to even the score at 3-3.

It was a back-and-forth affair all afternoon with Yanni Gourde scoring at 4:39 of the first period to give Victoriaville the early 1-0 lead.

However, the Maineiacs would respond just under two minutes later thanks to the smoldering hot Michael Chaput and his seventh goal in the last five games. Bissonnette and Kirill Kabanov chipped in with assists on the play.

Later in the first period, Lewiston would take the lead with a shorthanded goal at 16:11. Antoine Houde-Caron was the culprit on a feed from Alex Zafiris to put the Maineiacs up 2-1.

The second period was all Tigres, as the home team would take the lead by scoring twice while keeping the Maineiacs off the board.

Phillip Danault, who struck twice the previous night, scored his 19th goal of the year on the power play. Under 30 seconds later it was Yannick Dube who would give Victoriaville the 3-2 lead heading into the third.

A clean sheet from the Lewiston defense in the third paved the way for Malka’s dramatic score and sent the game into a scoreless overtime period.

Lewiston would go on to win the shootout 2-1 with Bissonnette scoring the game-winner and Kabanov the other.

Andrey Makarov earned the win for the Maineiacs as he made 20 saves on 23 shots. Antonio Mastropietro took the shootout loss for Victoriaville as he made 34 saves on 37 shots in a solid performance.
