Jr. Pirates make minor deals with Walpole coming to town

Biddeford, ME — The Portland Jr. Pirates made a couple minor moves to shake up the roster of the AJHL squad as they prepare to face off against North Division leading Walpole Express.

The Jr. Pirates, who have dealt with growing pains, going 7-15-1 to this point in the season, dealt Tom Castle to the Hartford Jr. Wolf Pack for Biddeford native Cam Madore.

The intent of the move was to give both players so much needed playing time, and to provide an influx of offense to a team that’s dealt with numerous issues.

“We’ve battled some goalie issues and some injuries,” said Jr. Pirates’ assistant coach Kent Hulst. “We thought we had it settled and then one goalie goes down and we have to find another one.”

“This was a deal that would give both kids a chance to play.”

In (acquiring) Cam (Madore), he brings us some pretty good speed,” said Hulst added. “It was really a win-win for both clubs.”

Madore, who played for Biddeford High School where they won a back-to-back Class A Boys’ State Championship, began this year with the Boston Bulldogs. In 16 games, he posted eight points before moving on to the Jr. Wolf Pack.

Castle, a native of the United Kingdom, will get more playing time with the Jr. Wolf Pack.

“We like Castle a lot and we thought it was an opportunity for him to go somewhere else to play more than he would with us.”

The Jr. Pirates also picked up defenseman Sean Gallagher from the Boston Bulldogs.

In 11 games with Boston, he has three assists with 10 minutes in penalties.

“We’re looking for a big weekend here against Walpole,” said Hulst.
