Torris named rookie of the week; Bowdoin remains at No.4

It’s only two weeks into the season and University of Southern Maine freshman goalkeeper Braely Torris has made an impact in the ECAC East.

Earlier today, he was named ECAC East Rookie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 28th.

Torris finished the week with a 1-1-1 record where he posted a 1.95GAA and a .947 save percentage.

On Tuesday, The Eckville, AB native earned his first collegiate with a shutout in a 3-0 win over Colby College where he made 38 saves on the night.

At the Skidmore Invitational Hockey Tournament, held in Saratoga Springs, NY, Torris guided USM to the championship game with a 44 save effort against Elmira College as the teams skated to a 3-3 tie.

In a shootout to determine which team would advance to the championship game, Torris made three saves as the Huskies prevailed 2-0.

On Sunday, USM fell to No. 15 ranked Buffalo St., 3-0, but Torris played a strong game, making 26 saves and was named to the all-tournament team.

So far this season, Torris is 1-2-1 in five games this season where he has a 2.27GAA and a .937 save percentage.

Southern Maine (1-3-1; 0-2-0) will host Middlebury College on Friday (7:00 p.m.) and fifth-ranked Williams College on Saturday (4:00 p.m.).

Bowdoin College remained ranked No.4 according the newest USCHO.com top-15 poll. Bowdoin is currently 3-0-0 this season after defeating Suffolk University, 6-2, on Saturday.

Falling in the rankings was No. 1 ranked Norwich University, who just ahead of Bowdoin in the No. 3 spot. Oswego is the new the No. 1 team after improving their record to 9-0-0 and St. Norbert is ranked second.

Joining Braely Torris is USM freshman goalie Jordan Lee, who was named the ECAC East Goalie of the Week.

USM only played one game this week and Lee stopped 42 shots in a 1-0 loss at Colby College. Over her last three starts, Lee has posted a 2.03GAA with a .945 save percentage and had two games with 40 or more saves.
