Champion is the league’s second star; Wood named to Team Atlantic’s roster

For the second time this season, Lewiston Maineiacs goaltender Nicolas Champion was one of the league’s three stars. Coming off two wins against the Quebec Remparts on Friday and the Shawinigan Cataractes on Saturday, he was named the No. 2 star for the TELUS Players of the Week.

In those two games, he only allowed four goals on 67 shots and carried a .940 save percentage on the weekend.

Other Maineiacs to have been maned the three stars of the week include Etienne Brodeur and Cameron Critchlow.

The Maineiacs have another player heading to the World Under-17 Challenge in Winnipeg, Manitoba as the team’s third round selection Brayden Wood was named to the Team Atlantic’s roster on Tuesday. The defenseman saw action with the team at the beginning of the season before heading to to the Fredericton Canadiens of the New Brunswick-Prince Edward Island Midget Major Hockey League.

In 14 games this season, he has three goals and 11 assists in 14 games.

Last week, Christophe Lalonde and Dillon Fournier were named to Team Quebec’s roster.

The tournament runs from Dec. 29, 2010 to Jan. 29, 2011.
