It’s yet another award for the University of Maine men’s ice hockey team.

Junior forward Spencer Abbott was named Hockey East Player of the Month for October.

Abbott has six goals, seven assists for 13 points in seven games and leads Hockey East in scoring. He’s currently ranks him fourth in the nation in scoring.

The Hamilton, Ont native began the season with a goal and an assist in Maine’s 8-2 win over UMass Lowell, finishing the night with plus-4 rating. The following night he posted a goal against the University of Connecticut.

The following weekend Maine finished with a 0-1-1 record, but Abbott was still a force scoring two goals, two assists for four points including scoring a pair of goals in a school record 10 seconds.

Abbott tallied a goal and three assists for four points as Maine stunned No. 2 ranked North Dakota, 7-3 and 4-2, respectively.

Abbott has tallied at least one point in all seven games this season and has a nine-game point-scoring streak dating back to last season.

Abbott and the Black Bears are ranked seventh in both D-I Top-20 and USA Today/USA Hockey magazine polls released on Monday, Nov. 1. They’ll travel to third-ranked Boston University for a single game on Saturday, Nov. 6. Maine enters the game with a record of 4-1-2, 2-0-0 in Hockey East play, while Boston University is 6-0-1, 4-0-1 in conference play.
