According to the Connecticut Post’s beat writer, Mike Fornabaio, the New York Islanders have signed Windham, ME native Matt Duffy to a one-year, two-way contract that will most likely see him playing for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Isles AHL affiliate.
Duffy, 24, is entering his third year of professional hockey after graduating from the University of Maine where the defenseman scored 44 points (22g, 22a) in 135 games.
At 6-2, 201-pounds, Duffy was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the fourth round (#104 overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft where he split time between the Panthers’ AHL team in Rochester, NY and the Florida Everblades, located in Estero, Florida near Fort Myers.
In 20 AHL games with Rochester, he scored three goals, eight assists for 11 points.
