North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) has hired Ed Harding as its Director of the Hockey Program and Varsity Boys’ Hockey Head Coach. Harding brings sixteen years of coaching experience ranging from high school level to serving as head coach on the professional level with teams in the United States Hockey League (USHL) and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Most recently, Harding was Head Coach and General Manager of the Lewiston Maineiacs.

Harding has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Southern Maine, where he played varsity hockey from 1985-1988. He was varsity captain from 1985-1988 and leading scorer from 1985-1988. He played for the Maine Mariners (American Hockey League) and the Johnstown Chiefs (East Coast Hockey League) in 1988 and 1989. He was affiliated with the Lewiston Maineiacs since 2003 and served as Head Coach/General Manager from 2007 until 2009. Harding is described as a teaching coach with a deep knowledge of hockey skills as well as strategy. He also has a strong academic background in journalism and broadcasting. “We feel that his experience and talents will help us advance our program and more importantly, develop the character and skills of the players in our program,” said Headmaster Peter Mertz.

“Ultimately, what I want to do at NYA is create a high level of commitment and standards for player development on and off the ice,” said Harding. Harding lives in Gray, Maine.
