USM’s Conter named NEHWA D-II/III All-Star

University of Southern Maine junior defenseman Paul Conter (Woodbridge, Ontario) will receive another piece of hardware on April 13 as he was named to one of the 18 spots on the 2009-2010 New England Hockey Writers Association Division II/III All-Star team released last Friday (April 2).

Conter will be among the award recipients who are recognized at the annual NEHWA awards banquet held next week at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The junior was among the six defensemen named to the expanded Division II/III squad. In past seasons, the NEHWA picked separate ECAC East/NESCAC and ECAC Northeast all-star teams, but this year combined the two and picked one expanded squad.

An ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) East first team all-star this season, Conter is the 11th USM player to be honored by the NEHWA since 1989-90. The third-year rearguard was the Huskies’ fourth leading scorer netting seven goals and collecting a team-leading 18 assists for 25 points. He also had three power-play goals and one game-winning goal during the season.

Southern Maine finished the 2009-10 season 10-13-3 overall and 7-9-3 in the league.
