Shawn Sirman Named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week

ORONO, Maine– University of Maine freshman goaltender Shawn Sirman (Blezard Valley, Ontario) was named the Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday. Sirman earned his first collegiate win with a 5-1 victory over Merrimack on Saturday night, as the Black Bears clinched a spot in the 2010 Hockey East Tournament.

Sirman, making just his fourth collegiate start, made 24 saves against the Warriors. He allowed just one goal and combined to stop 19 shots in the second and third periods without allowing a goal. He held Merrimack, which entered the weekend with the nation’s second ranked power play, scoreless on eight changes with the man advantages. Sirman finished the game with a 1.01 goals against average and a .960 save percentage.

Sirman joins classmates Adam Shemansky (Robbinsville, N.J.) and Klas Leidermark (Gavle, Sweden) who have each received Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors this season.
