Kailey Bubier Named ECAC Women’s East Rookie of the Week

For the third time this season, University of Southern Maine freshman forward Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine) has been named the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Women’s East Rookie of the Week for the week of February 15-21. The ECAC office made the announcement Monday afternoon.

Bubier was instrumental in the Huskies’ victories over Salve Regina University and The College of the Holy Cross on the final weekend of the regular season. The rookie wing had two goals, including the game-winning goal, in each game. She previously was named the Rookie of the Week on December 1 and January 18.

Against Salve Regina, her second goal of the game snapped a 2-2 tie with 1:25 remaining in regulation time of an eventual 5-2 win. The next afternoon against Holy Cross, Bubier broke a 2-2 tie early in the third period with a power-play goal and the Huskies held off the then league-leading Crusaders for a 3-2 victory.

For the season, Bubier is third on the USM scoring list with a team-leading 16 goals and 10 assists for 26 points. She has seven power-play goals and three game-winning goals.

Southern Maine heads into the ECAC Women’s East playoffs riding a four-game winning streak. USM, the sixth seed, will travel to Boston on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) to play the third-seeded University of Massachusetts Boston at the Clark Athletic Center.
