Reich named NESCAC Player of the Week

Bowdoin College men’s ice hockey player Brendan Reich (Montvale, N.J.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic
Conference Player of the Week. The junior defenseman netted three goals and an assist to lead the Polar Bears to a key 2-0-0 showing on the road and sole possession of first place in the conference standings with two games left in the regular season.

On Friday in a 4-2 win at Trinity, Reich scored the game’s first two goals on Bowdoin’s first two power play opportunities. He followed on Saturday with two more man-advantage points, assisting on the Polar Bears’ first tally before netting the game’s final goal in a 5-2 victory at Wesleyan. Reich also anchored a Bowdoin defense that allowed only four goals over the weekend.

The Taft School graduate has been a special-teams standout this season, scoring six power play goals, including five in conference play. He is seventh overall on the team with eight goals and seven assists this year.

Bowdoin (15-5-1), ranked 12th in the latest USCHO.com Division III poll, will host Saint Anselm College on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and New England College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Two wins would assure the Polar Bears of the first seed in the NESCAC Tournament for the first time since 2007.
