Colby drops third straight game

Brandon Broad (West Seneca, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal with 7:08 to play and had an assist on the other goal to power Hamilton College to a 2-1 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s hockey Friday night at Alfond Rink.

Hamilton moves to 11-6-2 overall and 8-5-1 in the league in taking over sixth place and dropping the Mules (10-5-3, 6-5-3) to seventh in the league.

The Mules got on the scoreboard first when first-year player Nick Kondiles (Lake Forest, Ill.) scored his seventh goal of the season off assists from captain Matt Strickland (Leduc, Alberta) and Cory McGrath (Yarmouthport, Mass.) eight minutes into the opening period.

Hamilton tied the game with 4:04 left in the opening period on the power play when Broad assisted on a goal by Joe Houk (Richboro, Pa.).

Anthony Ruberto (Stoney Creek, Ontario) assisted on Broad’s goal in the third period.

Calvin Bartel (Drake, Saskatchewan) played the opening period and made 12 saves and teammate Scott Hefferman (Warwick, R.I.) stopped 18 gots over the final two periods for Hamilton. Cody McKinney (Weston, Fla.) had 25 saves for the Mules, who play host to Amherst College at 3 p.m. Saturday. Hamilton heads to Bowdoin College for a 4 p.m. game Saturday.
