Maineiacs winless on recent roadtrip

The Lewiston Maineiacs went winless on their four-game road trip as they fell 2-1 to the Val d’Or Foreurs in front of 1,625 fans at the Centre Air Creebec on Sunday night.

Penalties haunted the Maineiacs in the first period as they went to the penalty box five times and the Foreurs capitalized on their chances.

“After the first period, I wasn’t happy with the penalties we were taking,” said Lewiston Maineiacs Head Coach Jean-Francois Houle. “The losses we’ve had the last four-five games, we’ve been undisciplined and you can’t win games in the box.”

Marco Scandella gave the Foreurs the 1-0 on the powerplay as he released a slap shot from the top of the left circle at the 8:18 mark of the opening period.

Vincent Couture found the back of the net also on the powerplay at the 12:26 mark. The initial shot was let go by Yousseff Kabbaj.

Val d’Or went 2-for-7 on the man advantage in the contest.

Houle was pleased the way his team came out in the second period.

“They responded well and they didn’t take too many penalties in the second and third,” Houle stated. “It gave us a chance to comeback.”

The Maineiacs had a tough time getting pucks to the net as they only had 17 shots on Val d’Or’s goaltender Raffaele D’Orso in the game.

The lone goal for Lewiston came off Samuel Carrier’s stick as he notched his fourth goal of the season on the powerplay 4:20 into the second period.

It was only powerplay goal for the Maineiacs on the four-game road trip. They ended the night 1-for-6 on the man advantage.

“We had a lot of good chances I thought,” Houle said. “We had a couple open nets, and we miss the net. We got to keep working hard, but we still have a lot of work to do on the powerplay.”

Adrian Lemay made 27 saves in the loss.

NOTES: Zachary Evans-Renaud missed his second straight game with a shoulder injury.
