St. Dom’s strong in victory over Maranacook

Lewiston, ME – The St. Dom’s Saints boy’s ice hockey team (6-4) overpowered Maranacook Community High School (5-6-1) in the 5-0 victory at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee Saturday night.

“We are back to using our speed and the forecheck was good tonight,” said St. Dom’s Head Coach Steve Ouellette.

Spencer Martin and Cody Rodrigue combined for six points.

“It was mostly a line effort,” said Spencer Martin who had two goals and an assist in the victory.

Maranacook Head Coach Jeff Fowler thought his team played well.

“The effort was there and everyone wants to improve,” Fowler said. “We just have to learn from our mistakes.”

The Saints jumped out to the 2-0 lead in the first period as Isaac Reed found Danny Nadeau in the slot at the 1:49 mark. Cody Rodrigue made it 2-0 at the 8:42 mark as he slipped a backhander past Maranacook netminder Cody Patterson.

Spencer Martin gave St. Dom’s a four goal lead after scoring 24 seconds into the second period.

The goal ended Willie Patterson’s night.

“We need another line to score more,” Ouellette said. “If they start doing that then it will be a good thing for us.”

Patterson made 11 saves on 15 shots before Jon Dale came in relief, making 15 saves.

“He certainly stopped the bleeding for them,” Ouellette added

Alex Parker added the Saints fifth goal with 7:37 remaining in the game.

Shane Curtis made 15 saves for the Saints.

St. Dom’s was 1-for-4 on the powerplay and Maranacook was 0-for-7 with the man advantage.
