Lewiston trades Gelinas and Woodworth

The Lewiston Maineiacs made another move Wednesday as they sent veteran defenseman Eric Gelinas and rookie Stephen Woodworth to the Cape Breton Screaming In exchange Lewiston receives defensemen Ian Saab and Zach Evans-Renaud. Also coming to Lewiston is a 2nd round pick for the 2012 draft.

Saab, 17, has played in seven games for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles this season. With the Halifax Lions of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League, he has two assists in 8 games. Last year in 51 games with the Lions he tallied 3 goals and 12 assists.

Evans-Renaud, also 17 leads the Campbellton Tigers with 24 points including nine goals. He was brought into Cape Breton Screaming Eagles’ training camp this season as an undrafted free agent.

Gelinas who was the second round pick this past summer by the New Jersey Devils has 3 goals and 16 assists in 33 games this season. He was Lewiston’s first round pick in 2007.

Woodworth a fourth round selection by Lewiston is in his first season with the Halifax Lions of the Maritime Junior “A” Hockey League where he has seven assists in 23 games. In five games with the Lewiston Maineiacs this season, he has six penalty minutes.
