Sabres recall Gerbe from Portland

The Buffalo Sabres announced today that they’ve recalled Nathan Gerbe from the Portland Pirates, Buffalo’s AHL affiliate

Gerbe’s recall comes as a result of several players missing from the line up as a result of injury, the latest being Andrej Sekera who injuried his ankle in the Sabres last game against New Jersey. With Chris Butler, Paul Guastad and Mike Grier out of the lineup, it was only a matter of time before Buffalo came calling.

Gerbe hasn’t been the prolific scorer that he was last year, but his defensive game has improved. His two-way game has the highlight of the season, and that’s been noted due to his time on the penalty kill.

In 23 games, Gerbe has five goals, 15 assists for 20 points with plus/minus rating -4.

Gerbe will be available for tonight’s game against Washington
