- Updated: November 22, 2009
Nick Kondiles had the first points of his collegiate career with three assists for the Colby College men’s hockey team, but University of Massachusetts at Boston got off to a 4-1 lead and held on for a 4-3 victory Saturday.
Michael Smigelski, another first-year player, scored the first two goals of his collegiate career for the Mules (0-2).
Colby fell behind 2-0 before Wil Hartigan tallied at 15:36 of the opening period on a power play off assists from Kondiles and Dan Nelson. The Beacons scored with just 1:10 to play in the first period for a 3-1 lead at the break.
After UMB went up 4-1 at 7:02 of the second period, Smigelski got his first goal from Kondiles and the first collegiate assist from Cory McGrath at 8:51. The same combination for Colby got the team’s final goal with 3:12 left in the game.
