Maineiacs Notebook: Lacasse most likely out for Sunday’s game

The Maineiacs look to be without their captain once again. Billy Lacasse who suffered a leg injury last week in practice won’t be able go against the Saint John Sea Dogs.

“He’s rehabbing slowly,” Lewiston Maineiacs’ head coach Don MacAdam said Wednesday afternoon. “He likely won’t be available for this weekend.”

Riku Dufva who missed the road trip last week due to the flu, has been practicing with the team and is ready for Saint John.

Preparing for Saint John

The Sea Dogs are riding a 13 game winning streak going into Friday’s game against the Drummondville Voltigeurs. MacAdam knows his players will be ready to go.

“At the end of the week of full week of practices and no games, there will be a lot guys ready to go.”

With four games in six nights next week, the team isn’t looking past Sunday.

“We are not looking ahead past practice (Thursday),” MacAdam said. “We are going to take it one game at a time.”

Do you feel a draft?

On Tuesday, the NHL Central Scouting released their primarily rankings for the 2010 NHL Draft. Samuel Carrier and Michael Chaput are the only Maineiacs on the list. Chaput is ranked tenth and going by last year’s draft, the tenth QMJHL player was picked in the fourth round. Chaput is ranked 19th, and Ashton Bernard who was the 19th QMJHL player taken went in the 6th round.

It’s a different year and I believe this year’s depth of draft eligible players is better then last year’s. Here are the top five players which doesn’t include goalies.

1. Brandon Gormley Moncton
2. Krill Kabanov Moncton (Out for 10-12 weeks)
3. Petr Straka Rimouski
4. Jakub Celek Rimouski
5. Michael Bournival

On a side note, Lewiston’s 11th round draft pick last June, Connor Brickley, is the eighth USHL/National Team Development Program player ranked. Going by last year’s draft, he would be a late second round pick. With the Des Moines Buccaneers, the Vermont bound Brickley has six goals and four assists in 11 games.
