Maineiacs bounce back, 4-1, after sore loss to Val d’Or

Lewiston, ME – The Lewiston Maineiacs came out of the locker room flying as they redeemed themselves for last night performance with a 4-1 win over the Val d’ Or Foreurs in front of 1,461 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Saturday night.

Last night, the Maineiacs were trounced in 7-1 defeat that left the Maineiacs head coach Don MacAdam fuming over his club’s lack of effort and overall performance; however, he was much more pleased with the team’s effort tonight.

“I am really impressed with our guys,” he said “They did what they had to do.”

Both Alexander Beaton and Pierre-Olivier Morin played a big role in the Maineiacs win tonight, setting up both goals in the first period.

Morin, behind the net, and fed a streaking Michael Chaput who snapped a shot past Val d’Or goalie Raffaele D’Orso for his seventh goal of the season at 10:49 of the period to give Lewiston a 1-0 lead.

“I am going to the (goal line),” said Morin. “He (Beaton) passed it to me and I saw Chaput and passed it to him.”

Francois Beauvillier added a second goal for Lewiston only 2:24 later when he fired a wrist shot into the far corner, beating D’Orso.

“I think the Maineiacs played very strong,” said Val d’Or’s head coach Marc-Andre Dumont. “I think the Maineiacs showed character coming back from yesterday’s result.”

“We knew that could happen and we got backed up (2-0).”

Lewiston outshot the Val d’Or Foreurs 17-9 in the first period.

Val d’Or showed some life only 15 seconds into the second period as forward Jonathan Hazen slammed a shot home on the door step of Maineiacs’ goalie Adrien Lemay.

At 2:22, Lewiston took advantage of a too many men on the ice call against Val d’Or as Eric Gelinas fired a blast from the top of the point, beating D’Orso on his glove side.

It was Gelinas first goal of the season.

With Etienne Brodeur off for slashing, Morin blocked a shot in his own end, and attempted to clear the puck while off-balance. D’Orso couldn’t gobble the puck, as it squirted through his legs, giving the Maineiacs a three goal lead, 4-1, with 13:02 to play in the second period.

“I was going to the bench and everyone was screaming,” Morin said. “Scandella has a very good shot and I was trying to clear the puck and it went in.”

Maineiacs’ goalie Adrien Lemay bounced back nicely making 35 saves for his ninth victory of the season.

“We had a reality check this morning,” Adrien Lemay said. “We had a big meeting just the players and the veterans took over. We just said all our duties and that was clear tonight, everyone has to do their job.”

D’Orso made 32 saves as he recorded his first loss of the season.

Lewiston was 1-for-6 on the powerplay. The Foreurs were 0-for-3.
