Pirates sign Benson to PTO
- Updated: October 30, 2009
The Portland Pirates announced this morning that they’ve signed forward Hans Benson to a PTO to help bolster the forward ranks on the team.
The Pirates were potentially looking at dressing only 11 forwards for the game tonight against Lowell, moving Marc-Andre Gragnani to forward. Gragnani practice at forward for a few days this week in between taking “maintenance days” after missing Sunday’s game with an injury.
Benson, 26, has been playing in Cincinnati of the ECHL this season where he has an assist and 23 minutes in penalties in four games. He has experience at the AHL as he’s played for the Springfield Falcons and Peoria Rivermen, scoring three goals, five assists for eight points in 94 AHL games.
He wasn’t brought into the Pirates fold for his scoring touch, but rather for his physical play, which the Pirates have lost with the absence of Brad Larsen (injury) and Cody McCormick (suspension). In 94 AHL, Benson’s amassed 417 penalty minutes
