Pirates add Mark McCutcheon

The Pirates added Mark McCutcheon to the roster late yesterday afternoon, signing him to a PTO. This is the latest addition to the Pirates roster after they signed Kyle Wanvig to a contract on Wednesday.

McCutcheon was playing for the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL when he was recalled by the Pirates. In three games with Idaho, he’s scored a goal and two assists with plus-2 rating.

McCutcheon’s arrival is most likely a replacement body for Cody McCormick, who suspended earlier in the week for giving the business to Providence – now Boston – forward Brad Marchand.

Nathan Gerbe will be a game time decision after he suffered an undisclosed injury on Saturday in Manchester.

The Pirates have sent Maxime Legault back to his junior club in Shawinigan.

Legault, 20, is an overager this season with the Shawinigan Cataractes and expected to be the team’s captain upon his arrival. In five games with the Pirates this season he was scoreless with plus/minus rating of -4, but that’s not indicative of his play.

Playing on line with Travis Turnbull and Kyle Rank, he show great poise on the ice and willingness to get into the dirty areas of the ice, which is why the Buffalo Sabres drafted him in the seventh round last year.
