Three Stars of the Week: Week ending 10/11/09
#1 Star: Danny McAuliffe – Portland Jr. Pirates
Danny McAuliffe had quite the weekend for himself at the Columbus Showcase in Hudson, NH. In three games, he scored five goals including four goals on Friday against the Washington Jr. Nationals. On Saturday, he notched another goal against the Binghamton Jr. Senators in a 3-2 OT win as the Jr. Pirates finished the weekend with a respectable 2-1-0 record.
#2 Star: Nathan Gerbe – Portland Pirates
Nathan Gerbe hasn’t lost a beat since last season. In the first full weekend for the Portland Pirates, he added a pair of goals and an assists for the Pirates. Gerbe scored a goal and assist on Friday at Times Union Arena in Albany, NY as the Pirates came up short, 5-2, against the Albany River Rats, however on Saturday, Gerbe scored the first goal for the Pirates as they won their home opener, 4-2, against the Providence Bruins.
#3 Star: Mark Mancari – Portland Pirates
Like Gerbe, Mark Mancari, who missed training camp due to a contract dispute, stepped up this past weekend for the Portland Pirates, scoring three points. While, he was held of the board on Friday and Sunday, he notched a goal and two assists as the Pirates won their first game of the season, 4-2, against the Provence Bruins.
