Jr. Pirates clawed down by the Bobcats

Hudson, NH – The Portland Junior Pirates were no match for the New York Bobcats as they had their two-game win streak halted, 5-0, by the Bobcats.

New York’s Christian Cangro and Matthew Zay each had a goal and two assists on the day.

The game was scoreless until the 17:40 mark of the first half when Thomas Parisi broke the ice, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Shawn O’Mack stretched the lead, 2-0, only 1:52 later when he beat Jr. Pirates’ goalie Connor Brogan on a nifty play.

Zay notched his first goal of the night just 36 seconds into the second half, giving New York a commanding 3-0 lead.

Exactly five minutes later, Stephen Castriota beat Brogan on a penalty shot, extending the lead to 4-0.

Christian Cangro capped off the scoring at the 10:20 mark with Zay and Kevin Antonik getting credit for the assists on the play.

Connor Brogan made 21 saves in the loss, going 1-1-0 in the Columbus Showcase. Joe Reagan stopped all 20 shots he faced for the Bobcats. The Jr. Pirates were 0-for-4 on the powerplay meanwhile New York went 0-for-2 on the man advantage.

The Junior Pirates continue their six game road trip next weekend in Cromwell, Connecticut when they face the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack.
