McAuliffe nets four in Jr. Pirates win over Washington

Hudson, NH – It was an afternoon to remember for Danny McAuliffe as he scored four goals, helping to lift the Portland Junior Pirates, 5-4, in a shootout win over the Washington Jr. Nationals at the Columbus Showcase held in Hudson, NH.

With the Jr. Nationals up 1-0 on an early goal by Pat Kerbuski, McAuliffe scored his first goal late in the period to tie the game at 1-1.

The Jr. Pirates found themselves down 3-1 in the second period as Kerbuski and Michael Harris scored a pair of goals just 1:27 apart.

McAuliffe made it 3-2 when he beat Jr. Nationals’ goalie Max Mulitz on the power play at 9:04 of the second period.

Just 2:43 later, McAuliffe completed the hat trick with an assists from Mike Smith, tying the game at 3-3; however, shortly after the goal the Jr. Nationals regained the lead, 4-3, on a goal by Nicky Demeria less than a minute later.

With five seconds left in the game, McAuliffe scored his fourth goal of the game, sending the game to overtime.

Trent Samuels-Thomas was credit with the game-winning goal in the shootout.

The Jr. Pirates went 1-for-9 on the power play, while Washington was 0-for-5 on the afternoon.

Connor Brogan stopped 21 of 25 shots in the win.
