McAuliffe continues strong weekend in Jr. Pirates win

Hudson, NH – Danny McAuliffe comes through again for the Portland Junior Pirates.

After scoring four goals Saturday, his goal on Sunday against the Binghamton Jr. Senators sent the contest into overtime where the Jr. Pirates prevailed, 3-2, in a shootout.

The Senators struck on the powerplay early in the period when Steve Stowell blasted one past Pirates keeper Danny Green. The tally was set up by Richard Botting and Roy Calderone.

Trent Samuels-Thomas, who also had an outstanding weekend for the Pirates, added an even strength goal at the 5:26 of the first period. Sean Oddy got the lone assist.

The Stowell-Botting-Calderone line stuck again in the second half – the game was two 25 minute halves – as Botting found the back of the net at 9:50 of the half.

With 75 seconds to play, McAuliffe notched his eighth goal of the season past Jr. Sens goalie Bryan Haude.

Matt Crowley got lone goal in the shootout to clinch the victory.

Green made stopped 26 shots in the victory. Both teams had eight powerplay chances.

The Junior Pirates look for their third straight win Monday at the Cyclone Showcase when they face the New York Bobcats.
