Jr. Pirates falls further behind

Saco, ME – Falmouth native Mike Chase led the Northern Cyclones with a goal and assist in the 3-2 victory over the Portland Junior Pirates at MHG arena on Saturday night.

The Jr. Pirates scored first when Justin Clouatre notched his first goal of the season with 2:10 remaining in the first period. Marc Ouimet and Kevin Ray were credited with the assists on the play.

Chase tied the game halfway through the second period.

Just 25 seconds into the third period, the Jr. Pirates regained the lead 25 seconds when Matt Crowley scored a power play goal.

Chase set up the tying goal, beating Jr. Pirates’ goalie Connor Brogan just over four minutes into the third period.

Kevin Vanous scored the go ahead goal for the Cyclones at 7:16 of the third period.

Brogan (1-3) made 39 saves in the loss, while Arnaud Gottschall turned aside 14 of 16 shots he faced for the Cyclones. The Jr. Pirates were 1-for-5 on the powerplay; the Cyclones went 0-for-5 on the man advantage.

NOTES: The Jr. Pirates fell to 1-5 in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League play. They travel back to Hudson, New Hampshire for the Cyclones Showcase where they will face the Binghamton Jr. Senators, the Washington Jr. Nationals, and the New York Bobcats, beginning Oct. 9.
