Jr. Pirates fall to Little Flyers, 4-2

Simsbury, CT – The Portland Junior Pirates returned to the ice on Friday night falling to the Philadelphia Little Flyers 4-2.

Ryan Mara started the scoring at 1:38 of the first period, building a 3-0 lead before the Jr. Pirates could finally get on the board.

At 6:34, Eddie Patterson made it 2-0 for Philadelphia and just 1:19 later Andrew Whalin found the back of the net, extending the Little Flyers lead to 3-0. Benjamin Balsama and Tim Larkin were credited with assists on the play.

With 1:27 left in the opening period, the Jr. Pirates finally got on the board with a powerplay tally from Jason Michaud. Mike Smith and Danny McAuliffe were credited with the assists.

Matt Crowley pulled the Jr. Pirates to within a goal, 3-2, at 3:34 of the second period. Smith grabbed his second assist of the game as Matt Battista had the secondary assist.

At 11:24, Greg Park put the game out of reach for the Jr. Pirates as Christopher Tracy notched the lone assist on the play.

Connor Brogan, who had a shutout in his last start, stopped 12 of 16 shots for the Jr. Pirates. David Donzanti made 19 saves for the Little Flyers in the win.

The Jr. Pirates face the Philadelphia Junior Flyers on Saturday at 4:15pm.
