Brogan shuts down Leafs in Junior Pirates’ opener

Laconia, NH – The Portland Junior Pirates opened the 2009-2010 season with convincing 3-0 win over the Laconia Leafs as goaltender Connor Brogan stopped all 29 shots for the win.

PJP_-_Secodary_Logo_helmet__smallDanny McAuliffe scored the first powerplay goal midway into the second period with Matt Crowley getting an assist on the play.

With 1:10 left in the period, Mike Smith added another powerplay goal as the Jr. Pirates held a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The score would remain that way until Smith scored his second of the game with an empty-net goal with 22 seconds left in the game.

The Leafs have a couple Mainers on the team as Shawn Lee, former member of the Waterville squad who last year’s Class A State Title and Matt Delgiudice, former Messalonskee star, who is in first year with Laconia.

The Junior Pirates are in Wayne, NJ this weekend to compete in the New Jersey Hitman Showcase.
