More roster moves for the Maineiacs

Lewiston, ME – The Lewiston Maineiacs roster has been finalized today after they released 18-year old forward Simon Bissonnette and defenseman Mathieu Brisebois, while claiming Marco Desveaux off waivers from the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

The Maineiacs now have 20 players on their roster, not including Samuel Finn and Eric Gelinas, who are participating at NHL training camps with their respective clubs.

Simon Bissonnette For Bissonnette, Lewiston’s a sixth round selection in the 2006 QMJHL Draft, he appeared in three preseason games, recording an assist and 16 penalty minutes.

“He (Bissonnette) will be going back to Atlantic Canada to play Tier II Junior A,” said Maineiacs’ President and Head Coach Don MacAdam.

Last season, he had 15 goals and eight assists 23 points and 105 penalty minutes in 44 games with the Halifax Lions of the Maritime Junior “A” Hockey League. Bissonnette also played two games with the Maineiacs last season, recording no points.

Mathieu Brisebois, 17, is also heading back to Junior A. He didn’t appear in any of the six exhibition games for Lewiston. Last year with College Antoine-Girouard, he had seven goals and 21 assists in 38 games.

The team also picked up 19-year old Marco Desveaux from Cape Breton. He’s listed as a 5’10, 172-pound left winger.

“He’s a taller player,” said MacAdam. “We wanted improved our toughness and that’s apart of his role on this team. He’s a physical player.”

Last season, he had a goal and 16 penalty minutes in 13 games with the Screaming Eagles. Although he’s listed a forward, he will be playing defense for the time being.

“He’s going to be playing the defense for the first couple weeks until we get (Samuel Finn) and (Eric Gelinas) back,” MacAdam mentioned. “We expect them to be gone for the next two weeks.”

With Gelinas and Finn gone, that leaves six defensemen on the active roster. There are14 forwards on the current roster.

Lewiston will begin their season on Friday when they face the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on the road. They’ll travel to Quebec City for a game against the Remparts on Sunday.
