Maineiacs add two overagers

Lewiston, ME – Samuel Grenache was surprised he was traded to the Lewiston Maineiacs on Sunday.

“It was I surprised but I work hard,” said Samuel Grenache after practice Wednesday. “I was ready to play and they traded me before the game.” The Montreal Junior had a pre-season contest against Shawinigan this past Sunday.

The 20-year old had six goals and two assists in 18 games last season. He also 49 penalty minutes in the 18 games. During the playoffs he had two goals and 35 penalty minutes in nine games.

“He’s a tough hard-nose first line player,” said Maineiacs General Manager Roger Shannon after the game on Sunday. “We are really excited to get him. He will come in here and bring depth to our forwards.”

“I am older, so I got to do the job, and take my place,” said Grenache.

“With Grenache, it’s his last year in the league, and we all know that what everyone remembers, on how you finish,” said Maineiacs Head Coach Don MacAdam.

“I will try to (finish my career on a good note),” said Grenache. “I am in good shape and I will try to.”

He has been well traveled as he played for Acadie-Bathurst, St. John’s, Montreal, and now Lewiston. He says friendships are off the ice and not on the ice.

“It will be fun,” said Grenache. “I like to play against (former teammates). I have no friends during the game.”

Maineiacs acquire Matt Boyle

Although the trade deadline for players who are 16-19 is over, 20 year olds can be trade until the winter trade deadline. Lewiston sent a 2010 fourth round pick to the Moncton Wildcats for Boyle’s services.

Boyle played all 68 games last season, he had a goal and eight assists. He also had 79 penalty minutes.

He fills the third and 20-year old slot. The other two 20-year olds are Grenache and Adrien Lemay.

There will be complete story on the Boyle trade Thursday on the Maine Hockey Journal.

Note: On Thursday, the Maine Hockey Journal will air the Maineiacs’ Media Day live beginning at 11:30am.
