Coach MacAdam couldn’t be reached for comment.

As expected, there are five free agent invitees. Although, the big surprise was Anthony Pisano not being one of them. When I spoke to MacAdam in July, it sounded like there was a handshake agreement between the two parties.

Two local players will participate at the camp. Defenseman Eric Bonawitz (Lewiston, ME), a former St. Dom’s and Portland Junior Pirates’ standout, who played last season with the Syracuse Stars of the EJHL. In 40 games, he had two goals and 10 assists for 12 points.

The other local boy is Shawn Hird from Auburn. He has spent the last few years in the Portland Junior Pirates organization including last season where he played for the Junior B squad. In 39 games, he potted 19 goals and added 27 assists for 46 points.

The other surprising move by the team was brining two goaltenders for a look. Ian O’ Brien played with the Oakville Blades of the OJHL where he went 16-2, with 3.22 goals against average and a .890 save percentage. The Blades would lose in the OJHL Final to the Kingston Voyageurs, which were led by Maine goalie recruit Shawn Sirman.

The other goalie invited is Damian Pinheiro, who played with the South Shore Kings of the EJHL. It’s listed ont the EJHL site that he played in one game last season for the Shore Kings.

The final invitee is forward Jared Hicks out of Saint John Vitos program. In 35 games last season with the Vitos, he tallied six goals and 11 assists for 17 points.

Another Trade is Completed

The Maineiacs acquired forward Mathieu Gingras from the Saint John Sea Dogs and a fifth round pick in 2010. In return, the Sea Dogs receive fourth and fifth round selections in 2010. In 50 games last season, the winger registered 15 points including seven goals.

Training Camp opens on August 19th with the Blue-White scrimmage a 7pm at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
