Announcement coming about play by play & more

Look for an announcement to come shortly in regards to who will replace, Greg Glynn, the former play by play announcer for the Portland Pirates. According to Brian Petrovek, Pirates Managing Owner and CEO, he hopes to make an announcement maybe today, but most likely on Monday.

I wonder who could be??

A great person for the job, just my opinion, would be Andy Austin. He’s the current track announcer at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME and works for Nassau Communications. He has a nice voice for radio and someone who I think could get the fans engaged in the radio broadcast.

With the NBA schedule recently unveiled, expect the AHL to release their 2009-‘10 season schedule next Wednesday.

pirates-logoEverybody knows what teams the Pirates will play, but it will be curious to know when. I’m curious as to how the two trips to Buffalo will be scheduled into the season. Last year, the Pirates traveled from Portland to Glens Falls, NY to Hershey, PA before making the trek to Buffalo. It’s wasn’t a fun drive and I know because I did it. It was close to 1800 miles total round trip from Portland in about four days.

And if Pirates’ head coach Kevin Dineen didn’t have an issue with Lowell… He will now. The New Jersey Devils signed former Pirate and Hershey Bear Louis Robitaille.

Robitaille is best known for ability to get under the skin of follow players, coaches and fans. He loves to taunt because he’s learned the breaking point for other players across the league. In 317 AHL games, he tallied 1,227 penalty minutes.

I wonder if he remembers the beer being dumped on him by a fan during the 2006 playoffs?

I’m also wondering what the Sabres will do. Are they going to sign a tough guy for the Pirates now?
