Pisano is the International Man of Mystery

Lewiston, ME– He has a name. The potential 6-6 free agent invitee that has been talked about all summer by Maineiacs’ management has been finally revealed. Anthony Pisano is the giant the team has been talking about.

“We are in the process of getting him into camp,” says Maineiacs’ President and Head Coach Don MacAdam. “We have been talking to him and his agent.”

Last season, the 20-year-old defenseman played with the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League where he tallied a goal and 10 assists. His 196 penalty minutes was 12th in the league. In 2007-2008, he played with the Weeks Crushers, also of the MJAHL where he tallied five assists in 44 games. Pisano was fifth in penalty minutes for the 2007-2008 campaign with 219 penalty minutes.

MacAdam believes the transition to the QMJHL shouldn’t be to difficult for Pisano, who wants him to bring his physical game to the table.

“We certainly hope so. He’s a big strong guy and the Maritime Junior A (Hockey) League is a very good league.”

“We expect him to bring his physical presence,” MacAdam mentioned.

Pisano has both played defense and forward, but MacAdam hasn’t penciled him into a slot just yet.

“It will be where our greatest need is, and where we feel he can help the team the most,” MacAdam said.

Pisano has been to several NHL camps and could be heading to another, although MacAdam didn’t divulge with whom.

“My understanding is he’s going to a rookie camp this year,” he said.

Before Pisano heads to Lewiston’s camp next month, he will be in the Senior Chowder Cup this week in Walpole, Massachusetts with other college, junior, and high school players across North America.

The tournament also runs in Foxboro, Mass.

Lewiston expects to have three more free agent invitees to training camp.

“We anticipated four free agents at camp,” MacAdam reiterated. “They haven’t been official because we haven’t signed anyone to a tryout form.”

Training camp opens the week of August 17. Details haven’t been announced.
