Dumoulin and Gelinas get the call to the NHL

Portland, ME – A couple of players with Maine ties were drafted today by NHL clubs as they conducted their 2009 Entry Draft in Montreal.

Brian Dumoulin, a native from Biddeford, was drafted in the second round (#51 overall) by the Carolina Hurricanes.

According to scouting rankings, he was rated as high as #51 by TSN’s Bob Mackenzie, which is were he was selected by Hurricanes.

Although, Dumoulin was picked by the Hurricanes, he’s stilling going to attended Boston College in the fall.

Just a few picks later, Lewiston Maineiac defenseman Eric Gelinas was selected by the New Jersey Devils with the 54th overall pick.

Last year with the Maineiacs, Gelinas scored 10 goals, 29 assists for 39 points in 67 games. He was one of 104 players who took part in the NHL combine in Toronto and did very well, which might have boosted his trade value with the Devils.
