Ashley selected in the MJAHL Draft

Amherst, NS– This past Saturday, the Martime Junior “A” Hockey League held its annual Entry Draft. With the fourth selection, the Summerside Western Capitals selected Maine recruit, Darcy Ashley.

With the Cornwall Superior Thunder of the New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget League this past season, he had 25 goals and 35 assists in the 35 games.

Ashley wasn’t able to be reached for comment on his selection.

Brent Andrews, who has been recruited by Maine went undrafted as he mulls over the decision between Major Juniors or the college route.

“So that’s (MJAHL) no longer an option,” said Brent Andrews. I dont plan on playing midget again. I hope to make a decision soon.”

He was a teammate of Ashley with the Superior Thunder. He had 12 goals and 20 assists in 30 games last season. He had three assists in four playoff games.

Earlier this month, the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL took him with the 15th pick of the Entry Draft.

He wouldn’t comment if he was looking at the New England Prep School Route.

Maineiacs’ Draft Picks Selected

The Lewiston Maineiacs’ eighth round pick in 2009, Tyler Piercy, was selected in the fourth round in the MJAHL Draft. The Woodstock Slammers took him. Last season he played with North Yarmouth Academy.

Lewiston’s third rounder in 2008, Zach Shannon was taking in the eighth round by the Amherst Ramblers. All signs point, the General Manger’s son will be in Lewiston this upcoming season.

Lewiston’s ninth rounder this year, Luke Dillman, was drafted by the Bridgewater Nauss TIM-BR Mart Lumberjacks in 2008.

Charles Grant, the Maineiacs tenth rounder in 2009 was selected in the Territorial portion of the draft by the Yarmouth Jr. A Mariners.
