Maineiacs release their 2009-2010 Schedule

L-Maineiacs logoLewiston, ME –  The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Lewiston Maineiacs released the 2009-2010 schedule on Thursday.

“We are really excited about the schedule,” said Maineiacs’ President and Head Coach Don MacAdam at the team’s town hall meeting on Thurday night.

The longest home stand is seven games which starts the day after the Christmas breaks on December 27th and runs to January 10th. The longest roadtrip four games which happens twice during the season. One trip is playing Rouyn-Noranda and Val d’Or twice to get those dates out of the way.

“This year we are only going up there once,” says MacAdam. “We will save money on our budget and we aren’t beating up our players with two long road trips.”

On October 17th when the Drummondville Voltigeurs come in to town, there will be a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness.

“We had a meeting today with a breast cancer group and we are going to have pink in the rink,” said MacAdam. “We are going to paint the ice pink and it’s going to be a great fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. That’s a sort of thing we want to do with our team this year.”

The team will play on New Year’s eve day game against the Gatineau Olympiques at 2pm.

“We are going to try to do a couple of different things,” said MacAdam to the fans who were in attendance. “We moved a couple early (home) games in September and October to later in the season, so you folks will be thinking about of hockey then finishing up your fall activities.”

The team plans on having Church and Veteran’s nights during the season.

The QMJHL season officially begins on September 10th when the Drummondville raises the President’s Cup banner. They face the Val d’Or Foreurs.
