Two more Jr. Pirates announce their college plans

Saco, ME– The Portland Jr. Pirates announced today that forward ’90 Elias Wissman of Battleboro, Vermont has verbally committed to play for the Westfield State University Owls in Westfield, MA for the 2009 – 2010 season.

This past season was his first with the Junior Pirates program. Wissman becomes the Junior Pirates 60th college commitment.

Wissman finished 20th in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League in scoring with 18 goals and 28 assists and was named to the MJHL All-Star team.

Tim Holden had the opportunity to coach Wissman last season and said the following. “I think Westfield State will be lucky to get someone of his character. He was one of the hardest working players that I’ve ever worked with. With his coach-ability, maturity and speed, he has a lot to offer the program.”

Saco, ME- The Portland Jr. Pirates announced today that goalie ’89 Carl Rappa of Bellmore, New York has verbally committed to play for the Suffolk University Rams in Boston, MA for the 2009 – 2010 season.

This past season was his first with the Junior Pirates program. Rappa becomes the Junior Pirates 59th college commitment.

He had a goals against-average of 4.70 and a .867 save percentage. Carl ended the year with 611 saves. Rappa also was named as the AJHL Goalie of the week in January.

Bridgton Academy forward selected in the NAHL Draft

The North American Hockey League held its annual Entry Draft yesterday. Thomas Paine who spent last season with Bridgeton Academy was selected by the expansion Janesville organization. At the Chicago Showcase, he had a goal and two assists in five games.
