Garrett Clarke on the move?

Lewiston, ME– A year ago, defenseman Garrett Clarke was one of the most highly touted players in the 2008 draft. After making it clear a few weeks before the 2008 draft that he would honor his commitment to the University of North Dakota, the Maineiacs took a chance him with the sixth overall selection and signed him.

Fast forward a year later after racking up six goals and three assists in 49 game in 2008-2009; Clarke’s name is in the rumor mill again, this time in the trade winds. According to the Metro News in Halifax, the Mooseheads are going after the 16 year-old-defenseman.

The deal would include a 19-year-old or a 20-year-old forward and a late round selection going Lewiston’s way, according to the Metro News.

“It’s nothing but a rumor,” said Garrett Clarke on the report.

The Maineiacs are being tight lipped on the rumor.

“He (Don MacAdam) has no comment,” says Alex Reed, the Director of Media Relations for the Lewiston Maineiacs. “He also said there are no trades at this time of year.”

The trade window opens on June 5th, one day before the draft in Moncton. The window closes after the draft is completed on June 6th.

In other Maineiacs’ news, the 2009-2010 schedule will be within the next week. The team will have 34 home dates.
