Kingston falls hard

Victoria, BC– The Kingston Voyageurs and Maine goalie recruit, Shawn Sirman, opened up their first game of the RBC Cup on Sunday night. The Victoria Grizzlies who are hosting the event, ran right over the Voyageurs, with a 5-0 win.

Sirman allowed all five goals in the loss on 40 shots. The last time he let five goals in was April 12th in the 5-2 loss to the Oakville Blades in the OJHL Final. It was the fifth time all season he allowed five or more goals. The Voyageurs get right back to work on Monday as they go up against the Summerside Capitals of the Maritime Junior “A” Hockey League at 5pm.

Fargo splits in Indiana

Johnnie Searfoss and the Fargo Force split the opening two games of the Clark Cup Final against Scott Darling’s Indiana ICE. Searfoss has been held pointless in the Finals and has only fired three shots on goal in the two games.

The series resumes on Wednesday in Fargo, North Dakota.

Brandon Francisco drafted by Sarnia

Don’t shoot the messenger but 2011 recruit was drafted by the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League’s Priority Selection on Saturday. He was drafted in the third round.

The 15-year-old forward had 57 goals and 50 assists in 72 games with the York Simcoe Express this past season.

Here’s the scouting report by OHL Central Scouting.

“Francisco is a very skilled, offensive minded player who has played all three forward positions this season. He is a great skater who possesses high end speed and the ability to make plays while in full stride. If anything, he seems to play quicker when he has the puck on his stick. While not very big, Francisco plays surprisingly
hard on the puck considering his physical stature. He is very confident when he has possession of the puck.”

Ashley and Gillard don’t move up

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League unveiled their final draft ranking last week. Darcy Ashley is expected to go in the second round. Steven Gillard is still expected to go between the 6th and 8th round.

Connor Anthoine, Brian Billett, Evan Schultz, and NYA’s Tyler Piercy were all mention in the report.
